Emergency First Responder Training

February 25th, 2010

We had our annual Emergency First Responder (EFR) training this past weekend. EFR training teaches us how to respond in the case of emergencies. The focus of our training is with care for children, but some of the skills are for care of adults as well.

After watching a video, we do some book learning, and then hands-on training doing cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR), bandaging wounds, and assisting chocking victims among other things. For our hand-on training we use other teachers as victims, but we also use specially made training manikins for CPR and rescue breathing.

Our training doesn’t replace the need to see a doctor or call for help, but instead it gives us the confidence to remain calm and react appropriately in the case of emergencies.

We do our training annually and on occasion we open our training to parents who may be interested as well.

Here are some pictures from our training event:

2nd Term in 2010!

January 14th, 2010

(Joy Parents, to see a picture of the new K2A Class please log in to Joy-Connect!)

It has been a great few weeks back to school. I hope everyone has settled back into our school routines. 2010 will be an exciting new year for us! Many of our K3 students will graduate this year and our Afterschool Elementary will be gaining a new level.

One of the biggest changes that you may notice is our new K2A teacher Miho. Please stop by the K2A classroom and introduce yourself to our newest staff member.

2nd Term is our shortest term, but it is still full of fun, learning, and events! This term will bring us dental check, Female Relative Visiting Day (Mother’s Visit Day), and an excursion! Also, keep in mind that the week between 2nd and 3rd Term has our special Spring Session!

Ueno Zoo Trip!

October 19th, 2009

photo

After having to postpone our original trip to the Zoo, we were luckily greeted by “better” weather!

This time the Kinder and Pre-Kinder went together and had a blast. The Ueno Zoo is very big and I’m sure that we didn’t see everything, so please go again while the weather is still cool.

I spent the day with the Pre-Kinder and I think they really enjoyed the gorillas the most.

Although there were many other schools there, it wasn’t too crowded and we all had a comfortable place to have lunch!

I really hope our next excursion can be as much of a success!

It has been so much fun this summer. We’ve been beating the heat playing with water balloons and water buckets at the park. We’ve learned all about safari animals with flash cards and safari crafts.

Our 2009-2010 School Year Term 1 starts Tuesday, September 1st, 2009. Our Joy Members from the Kindergarten and Pre-Kindergarten should be receiving your “Welcome Packages” shortly!

See you soon!
